What are your thoughts on long distance relationships?

Why you don't/do like it.

I am a committed person in general so if it comes to having a long distance relationship then I'd make it work anyhow but the problem with long distance in general is that you can only be part of other person's life in a very limited manner. So it's usually a bad idea to get into a long distance relationship from the start. There are good chances that it might not work out. But when two people have spent significant time together then they should have more understanding about each other and their relationship.
Some people do make it work so i guess depends on person to person.

They are a lot of work, having to give affection and attention in ways you only can from so far away. Not being able to go out together. The expense of visits, time off work etc, the worry that it will become too much work for them and they might bail. Good side is knowing the distance will end and you finally get to be together, really appreciate the time you spend together as a result of not being able to for so long. Communication becomes easy since you had to do a lot of it. You look at them and think of all the two of you had to deal with apart and how they were worth every single day.
