Built to repel the Norse, reputedly held against Queen Mary, now a ruin with a haunted beach

This was so intriguing that I looked it up...lots of lovely history! There is actually a sign there showing the original structures, which were like tall Tudor English homes nested atop the stones that are there now.

The only thing I could not find was any reference for the haunted beach...and I would love to know who or what haunts the beach and why!

@Vivaci It was well positioned to watch for Viking raiders from the sea- I think (only think) it was originally built for the Norse War of 1263.
