Colonel David Stirling [I Love History]

Another shadowy figure from the past. The fellow at the side is is Colonel David Stirling, who invented, or founded rather, the SAS. Another Scotsman, he was known as the Phantom Major and was related to Lord Lovat, one of the first men ashore in D-Day with his commandoes.

He founded them and then they disbanded for a little while. Before being reformed and unknown about for decades. Then 1980 Iranian Embassy showed exactly who they were and what they could do.
