Pashtun Warriors [I Love History]

[image deleted]
The guardians of the North West Frontier, the Pashtun were and are amongst the fiercesy warriors in the world. The Sikhs met them at the edge of their Empire, the British got to know them well, as did the Russians, and later the western forces in Afghanistan. These lads are carrying Jezzails, the accurate weapons of the Frontier

@hartfire No; I have no current plans for a novel along the Pakistan/Afghanistan border. Just personal interest.

@hartfire Thank you, Clothos. That was kind of you to make the suggestions. :-)
Impressive photo/poster.

Dead ringer..change the clothes and squint...u see the American Indians!!

@LeopoldBloom thank you!
@Elevatorpitches Yes...except horses only arrived in North America with the Spanish. The changes they led to in the lives of the Plains tribes was cataclysmic. But because this is when white people encountered them, it was assumed that this was their natural state, when in fact it was a relatively recent development.
@LeopoldBloom wasn't about the horses..

When I decided to select a Plains Indian pic I saw sev. dozen in a few seconds and only wanted one that reflected that proud fierce spirit... and the one I instantly found...had three figures again and different headdresses and garments but mostly the vigilance and alertness and pride and angles...felt reminiscent. So I put it up. Its down now, felt like removing it

We’re these the ones the British favoured and called them the “Black Watch”?
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Quimliqer The Black Watch are a Scottish regiment in the British Army. Founded in 1739 from independent companies, they became one of the elite regiments. According to regimental stories, the name came from the dark tartan they wore, compared to the other, brighter tartans.

@helensusanswift Thanks for the clarification Helen. I was getting them confused with the Gurkhas.
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Quimliqer The Gurkhas still fight in the British Army - they're from Nepal. The Pashtun were often recruited into the Khyber Rifles and the Guides (Kipling wrote about the Guides in his Ballad of East and West - you'll know the lines - 'oh east is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet' )
