Campbell of the Thin Red Line [I Love History]

On the 20th October, 1792, Colin Campbell was born in Glasgow. That was not his birth name, which was Colin MacLiver, but he later changed his name to Campbell.
After a career full of action in the Peninsula War and later against the Sikhs, Colin Campbell achieved fame in the Crimean War when he commanded the 93rd Highlanders at the battle of Balaclava - the famous incident of the Thin Red Line. His order "Damn your Eagerness!" When the Highlanders wanted to charge the Russians with the bayonet, may be apocryphal, but sounds like him. He later commanded in the Indian Mutiny, relieving the siege of Lucknow.
A busy man, was our Colin.
