Should everyone take a basic test on math, science, history and geography before being allowed to vote ? [I Love History]

why or why not ?
Not the first time I have heard this suggestion, usually as a poorly educated and misinformed dig at Conservative voters (which is exactly what it is).

The sad part is, everyone who hears these kinds of questions always misses the glaring hypocrisy behind it...

The exact same people who scream "voter suppression!", and that presenting an ID to vote is racist, are the ones wondering why we can't discriminate against people they deem unintelligent and unworthy.

Sorry, but (at least for now) holding a differing political view is not illegal. Nor is it immoral, evil or a sign of low intelligence.

Probably... But i think a person should be a tax payer before they are allowed to vote and they should get a vote for each $ of currency they pay in tax..
Adstar · 56-60, M
@RedFlower So your proposing discrimination against people based on them having a mental challenge? lol
RedFlower · F
@Adstar yes i do, and i see nothign wrong with that. hell i favor a technocracy over a democracy

@RedFlower But a lot of scientists have psychological conditions.. Have you not heard of the mad scientist syndrome..

Some of the most driven and successful scientists are that way because they only function well in a lab setting and they are very poor at interpersonal relationships..

Being able to vote ?......no.
Even an idiot is worthy of representation.

Being able to STAND ?........Now there's an interesting idea !

One wonders how many Presidents would have failed a basic history test or a basic mathematics one.

I think a test on competency and decency would be better. Then, no one in politics would be allowed to cast a vote.

few years ago I would have said that you are crazy… now I think you are damn right!
Thodsis · 51-55, M
Let the politicians take the tests first. Just to get a benchmark...

Politics is easier to understand than Maths and Science! 🤣

Yes, it would eliminate 90% of the liberal voters as they are totally with out brains. Trump would win by a landslide that is why they won't require photo IDs of liberals also as they cannot pass driving tests easily.
texasdaddydom · 51-55, M
well yes because every one should do those things anyway before the reach 18
RedFlower · F
@texasdaddydom i mean a test that is repeated every time you vote. not just once when you reach voting age
texasdaddydom · 51-55, M
@RedFlower no I do not believe in testing voters in a democracy and I don't think it would matter that much if you did I don't think the actual illiterate are the problem or vote in statistically significant numbers. I think right now our biggest problem is accuracy in media where lies and conspiracy have equal weight to science and facts. and people easily influenced by media are functional enough to pass a test.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
Really? Uneducated people don't deserve representation?
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@SW-User ALSO...we have the college educated who are just as likely to become conspiracy theorists. Micheal Flynn as an example.
SW-User
@JaggedLittlePill Of course they are. Sadly, the cost of education is becoming too elusive for many people now.

@SW-User Absolutely.

Rocknrod · 61-69, M
