I Love History

Tuesday June 6th, 1944.

Members of the US 1st, 29th, 4th, and 90th infantry divisions storm the beaches of Utah and Omaha including the elite soldiers from the 2nd and 5th Ranger battalions and the US 101st and 82nd airborne who dropped behind enemy lines the night before.

Members of the British 50th and 3rd Infantry would land on the beaches of Gold and Sword including the elite 6th airborne division that would land the night before.

Finally, the 3rd Canadian infantry division would land on Juno beach.

The Allied forces would take on members of the German 21st Panzer Division, 352nd Panzer Lehr Division and the 709th and 716th coastal defense divisions.

What would cost the lives of almost 4,500 men some only just turning 18 years old would be a sacrifice and a victory still remembered today as one of the most daring and well thought out plans in military history.

Two months later Paris would be liberated from German occupation giving the Allies site on their next target, Germany.

Let’s take a break from the worries brought by the Corona Virus and riots and remember harder times that we have pushed through as a nation.
