Who was the "Best President?" And Why?
Best President?

Difficult to say bc each has his own milieu, constraints, etc.

Madison, having come up with the so-called "Virginia Plan", the basis for much of the Constitution, gets to claim a special place which others cannot.

But I would say JFK is in many ways the Best, for these reasons:

though perhaps inclined to be a playboy, he was forced to step up when his favored oldest brother was killed in WWII, and took over a trajectory which had been prepared for another;

like many Kennedys, he could have lived at ease, but instead gave over his life to public service...and JFK ultimately gave his life in that service;

unlike so many other Presidents, I think he truly believed in the words which he wrote with Ted Sorenson, rather than cynically reading words as a means of manipulating people;

those grandiose words called us to be better than ouselves, unlike the standard messages of other presidents;

he wanted us to see how American power, money, intellect, good-will could be used to help remake our neighborhoods, our states, our countries, our world into a better place;

when there was a problem in government, he insisted on being kept up-to-date on progress toward solving it AND being personally involved.

LBJ was a bastard, for sure. Must have really grated on him that, having ascended to the Presidency, ppl were so broken up by the loss of JFK that LBJ had to oversee JFK's legacy...lol

The Texas Connection & Best Evidence are by far the best that I have read about this, without being deep-fried in crazy. 😉

If the kids/grandkids of the old men were automatically part of an automatic draft, we wouldn't just jump into things, willy nilly...perhaps we would respect our own "blood & treasure" more.

I remember that RMN liked to personally select bombing targets...

There is a reason we have career military people with training which ought to be of use in military situations...

A good leader knows his strengths. A great leader knows his weaknesses and uses the strengths of his team to make better decisions & outcomes for those who gave him that power.

We need more great leaders.
