I Love A Meaningful Quote

“Fake news. I don’t mean fake news in the Fox News sense. I mean the fake news that clogs up most newspapers and most news websites, for that matter. The new initiative will go nowhere. The new policy isn’t new at all…The product isn’t revolutionary. And journalists pretend that these official statements and company press releases actually constitute news…Fake news, manufactured, hyped, rehashed, retracted—until at the end of the week you know no more than at the beginning. You really might as well wait for a weekly like the Economist to tell you what the net position is at the end of the week.” -Nick Denton

Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. This is a personal example.

Friend of a friend is in prison for manslaughter. He had a crack addiction, went to a guy's house, bought a rock off a guy who then attempted to take it back at the end of a butcher knife. Stan wrestled away the knife, stabbed the guy in the throat, guy ran outside. Stan might have been alright, but in his rage, he ran after him and stabbed him again.

Newspaper article said this, closely paraphrased:

Stanley Deweese went into the kitchen, retrieved a butcher knife and stabbed the victim in the throat, then chasing him outside.

You see how that slight difference puts a different complexion on the matter. Makes it sound cold, premeditated and like he was the author of this violence.

@DanielChristensen That is a horrible story anyway you look at it..is he still locked away?
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@bookerdana Yeah, and yes he is. He was locked up for about 8 years, got probation with one of those ankle monitors, crossed a county line going to see a girl, violated the terms of his release and was sent back. Some people have no luck and Stan has no wealth to shield him.

Do you mean fake news in the mainstream media sense?

@eli1601 I think the quote simply represents preoccupation with minutiae everywhere

Im bemused by news reporters interviewing other news reporters for lack of someone credible to interview! Or infact a credible story! Emphasise STORY!
