I Am Interested In Politics

Trump and his cronies have campaigned on whipping up hysteria over illegal immigrants.

The purpose of this witch-hunt is to distract the populace from real problems, especially the growing disparity of wealth between the mega-rich and the rest of us in America. Wide-spread homelessness, student loan debt, out of control housing costs, pollution and damage to the environmental, to name a few issues.

Another very useful distraction to fool the less-bright among us is a good old-fashioned war. Right now the Trump administration is working on starting a war with Iran. Many will die, a few will make a lot of money off the carnage.

In Machiavelli's "The Prince", he advised that the way for the ruling class to keep control over the people is to "keep them poor and on a constant war-time footing."

With some people, you can play the same trick on them over and over, and they still fall for it everytime. They are called rubes, dumb yokels. Don't be a rube. Wise up.

You should know better. There are consequences to large numbers of illegal immigrants. Both parties have at times talked about the problem and proposed restrictions, they just didn't have the political nerve to do anything about it. For better or worse, Trump isn't whipping up hysteria, he is implementing solutions.

Your shopping list of "real problems" is a mix of self-inflicted issues, real issues, and hype.

@sunrisehawk I dispute that there is some huge, scary crisis due to "illegal" immigrants. Actually, I'm not opposed to sensible limitations on immigration, such as vetting to filter out criminals. It's the whipping up of hate and fear over a non-existent crisis that I object to.

The Trump administration is greatly exaggerating the situation. The few thousand refuges gathering at our southern border are applying for asylum to the United States because of horrendous violent conditions in Central America. People have been coming to America for over 200 years to escape war, poverty and persuasion. We used to welcome them. On the Statue of Liberty is inscribed the words:

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

@badminton Quote a poem isn't much of a immigration policy. You say a few thousand... yet others say a few thousand each day... A country without a secure border isn't a country for very long. It may seem harsh, but immigration isn't mandatory. I'm not opposed to legally entering the country, but illegally I do.

@badminton ...not to mention that those horrid conditions were engineered by the good ol' (think: NAFTA, also think US ENGINEERED COUPS IN MANY CENTRAL AMERICAN COUNTRIES all through the last few decades..) USA the country that now is so bothered that its own practices create many REFUGEES.
