I Believe Long Distance Relationship Can Work

Believe it or not, I met a girl on a site like this (EP) before it was shut down and we were such a good match that we attempted a long distance relationship and it lasted about 5 years. We both like xbox and played together and she would call me sometimes at 3am and leave me sweet little voicemails of how she loved me and missed my voice. We didn't even live too far away so we made it work and it was hard for awhile but I have never been happier...until about a month ago when she randomly broke it off with me. She still wants to be friends, which is fine...she just says she wants to focus on herself right now. I understand 100%. She's much smarter than me and has a bright future. I'd hate to hold her back...but that doesn't mean I won't be sad about it. I mean, 5 years of anything and you are sure to be attached. I just didn't expect such a sudden change. She claims that this might not be the end of our story together (we talked about getting more serious and getting a place together) but the way she talks to me now is completely different and I don't know if I should move on or not. As I type this, I believe that maybe it's just time to separate for good and not try to force it. I guess I just needed a place to vent out my feelings because I don't get a chance to talk about this kind of stuff to people. Sorry if this is too long lol.

I think you should do what she's doing and concentrate on yourself. She's being a wee bit mean to say " This may not be the end of our story " and at the same time saying she just wants to be friends. Don't put your life on hold in the offchance she might change her mind.
If it's meant to be it's meant to be, but you need to take your own path too.

@AliceTinker And I will. I have been focusing on getting a new job because the one I have now is just ridiculous. I'm doing a six man job because they refuse to hire some other people since everyone else left. But that's a story for another day haha. I'm just trying to work as a photographer or an audio engineer instead of being at some boring desk job all day.

Sorry to hear that you guys separated. I actually met my current girlfriend (4 years so far) on EP - she lives in Canada and I live in NY. She's actually flown over a few times.

We actually had our moments of "splitting up" and we did end up getting back together. So all hope is not lost!

@Chaoshead Thanks for sharing your story. That gives me some encouragement. She has made so many changes since we met (for the better). She at first talked alot about depression and wanting to kill herself because of her family abuse but since talking to me, she stopped talking like that and she just seems more confident in herself. At the end of the day, I'm just glad shes happier than before.
