I think most times, when people want to discuss politics and religion, they just really want to see if you agree with them.

And if you don't they want to tell you why you're wrong. Its very rare to find someone that genuinely wants to share views and leave it at that. Most people tend to get condescending or patronising when discussing these two topics. Has anyone else observed that?

Often a question or story won't call for differing opinions. It's just there to seek like-minded people. Yet people will invade these posts with the intent of pushing their own agenda or simply hoping to derail the post. It's best to create your own post rather than confront. I sometimes post very interesting things and I hate it when nobody gives me credit for knowing so much. I hate it even more when someone with an inferior education tries to challenge me without even bothering to understand what I'm sharing.
