An annoying interaction observed...

Some guy at the gym walked up to a woman, told her she looked like Mariah Carey (she didn't; not really), she smiled, he said, "I really mean it," she smiled more broadly, as he was handing her his phone he said, "can I have your number?" and she punched in her numbers into his phone. He said, "I'm going to text you."

He then walked away and I noticed they were both texting (to each other, I assumed). As he left, she continued texting for a good 7 minutes.

That guy is annoying as hell because he hovers over equipment he wants to use when I am using it and tells me, "take your time" as he paces back and forth with his fake smile. He has done this multiple times, for different equipment.

It's disturbing (and amazing) the woman fell for this whole set-up.
I was once a gym rat. Eventually I got so tired of random guys approaching me, the texters, people blasting music through their earbuds etc. list goes on - I bought a bunch of equipment for my home and it's been one of the best things I've done. Problem solved.

You shouldn't pay it too much attention, maybe he's just being nice to you and really wants to use the equipment. It's okay to be upfront and tell him if it's annoying you or making you uncomfortable. The fake smile and him telling you that is probably just him trying to assure you of that. Or wants to be your friend?

If it makes you feel any better their conversations probably didn't lead to anything but yes I mean whatever works I guess.

Maybe he’s an attractive guy who was able to charm her? 🤔

@marsbar That's all he said; that's hardly charming her. He's an average looking guy with an obnoxious insincere smile that he wears like a left-on lapel pin.

@MarkPaul Isn’t it fun to observe people? Lol
