Things we now know from the India outbreak
Covid was never just a "little flu". A hospitalisation rate of even 1% is catastrophic when the richest countries only have 3 ICU beds per 1000 people.
Once all the ICU beds are full, the fatality rate of covid jumps multiple fold because not only do people with covid not get oxygen, anyone with any kind of medical emergency cannot get help
No country was anywhere near herd immunity prior to mass vaccinations. If there was mass gathering and no outbreak, it just meant the virus hadn't got there yet
Heat and light does not slow down infection, only distance and avoiding bodily water droplets.
Lockdowns, even though they are crippling, are a lot less financially ruinous than a mass outbreak. Masks shouldn't even be a debate, they are nothing more than a nuisance compared to the alternative, a complete nobrainer precaution
The virus doesn't care "how well" a country had controlled the spread previously, all it needs is one opening in a mass gathering and it'll set the country alight like a spark becoming a wildfire
