Is someone stealing the gas out of my car?

[image deleted]
I dont think that extra hole in my locking gas cap is supposed to be there. I tried to find info about it online but all my results were about people drilling the gas tank itself.
Is it a vented gas cap? The hole, and the T slotting around it looks original to manufacture.

@SethGreene531 you can use that hole by sticking something pointed into it and it will unlock it without a key.
@morrgin Oh I see, ok. So you know it doesn't penetrate the cap then.

Do you feel any difference in fuel usage? If no then don’t worry

Checked engine, transmission old , air, oil filters, if everything seems fine and driving style hasn’t changed then you might consider theft as a possibility cause of low fuel efficiency. Sometimes it’s good to go to a mechanic for help@morrgin

That hole is where the plastic tether attaches to the cap.
MethDozer · M
@Livingwell nope. The tether goes around the base.

@MethDozer Are you sure. My Ram attaches on top.

Get a new lockable cap. Plus set up camera to catch the culprit.

@Gusman cameras up

Nah, just your heavy right foot.
If in doubt... then, replace it... 🤷‍♀️
I would think, even if it's possible for someone to defeat your locking gas cap, it wouldn't be worth the effort, and they would look for an easier target.
morrgin · F
Yes but you can also open without a key if you stick something pointed into that little hole.

Someone did. You see that cross molded into the cap? That's a witness mark so you know where to drill the cap if the keys are lost so you can override the tumbler mechanism.
