How do I discourage my 10 year old away from platform shoes?

She wants them more than anything since she saw them online. She wants the high top boot kind like club kids wear. She believes she will be able to walk in them just fine. If I could find a cheap pair I would let her try them just to see how impossible and painful they are. Where does she think she would wear them? I asked her this and she said the lake. Huh? Maybe this is just one of those situation where she has to hear the word no and live with it.
I would discourage it, but tell her why. They could have damaging long term effects. Just say no and stick with it.

Platform Shoes and Wedges

This style tends to have rigid foot beds, which can hamper how your foot naturally moves when you walk. If the heel of the platform is much higher than the toe area, the shoe also puts pressure on the metatarsal bones.

@LadyGrace exactly what I read. I also read that under the age of 12 they have growth plates that are not yet fully formed
@morrgin Yes, that is true. I just think it could cause real bad foot problems and pain in the future. Bones are still growing and adjusting. I'm thinking it could even lead to misalignment of the spine and possibly even foot spurs or bunions later on. I don't know.

Times have changed for kids these days. I wouldn’t let my daughter where them for 2 reasons, didn’t want her messing up her ankles or looking like a floozy.

You tell them no, at least thats how my parents let us know when we werent getting something
At ten, platforms are (in my opinion) entirely inappropriate for more than one reason.

I don't think I'd attempt to explain that to a10-yr-old.

Just a loving no. She'll have to learn to live with no, anyway.

By saying no. Tell her wait until Christmas
morrgin · F
@SirBenedictTheSecond I suggested she earn the money and buy them herself.

@morrgin You’re a good mother. A [c=#800000]wise[/c] mother.

Aw. Yeah, those would be awful at a lake. Maybe learning the hard way is best?

I had a pair as a kid back in the 70's.

@chrisCA I had a pair of sandaled ones back in the 90's. I couldn't drive a stick shift while wearing them and my ankles would buckle.
chrisCA · M
@morrgin Obviously not safe for driving. Lol

say that platform shoes are evil and kill people
kookaburraman72 · 51-55, M
She probably wants to drive a car too. Just say “no”.

I would say no
