One of your coworkers has been acting off lately.

They have been showing up late for work.

They have been coming to work drunk.

They have been disruptive in the work environment.

You hear through the grapevine that the co-worker recently lost his parents and his girlfriend left him soon after.

Your boss has informed you to deal with the troublesome employee as you see fit.

What will you do?

Have a 'seek to understand' conversation. Explain how his performance is declining and ask if he needs any assistance. Have printed out copies of links to any resources your company offers to help with such things.

Be kind and understanding but also very honest that his behavior is unacceptable and if it continues, diciplinary action will need to be taken.

Talk to them. Tell them that I've noticed that they haven't been alright lately, and that I'm there to talk to them if they need it and that I can give them information on people in our area that can help them.

Tbh, I think firing them is a dick move. We're talking about someone's damn life, it isn't a joke.

Tell him you understand he's going through a rough time but he can't continue to act like this. If it continues he gets written up and then follow company procedures in regards to firing.
Are driving to work drunk? 😳
