I was living in Lansing, Michigan. My mother's nursing home was right next to a school and the speed limit was 15 mph. I had to get her to a doctors appointment, and I was doing 20 or 25 and I got pulled over by the cop who was sitting there waiting for me. It was a hundred dollar ticket.

All that month the city was fundraising, and I got a total of $400.00 in tickets in various places, for things like not knowing that the speed limit changed to 10 mph lower than it had been a mile back because a tree grew over the speed limit sign so you couldn't see it. But I was still supposed to know the speed limit changed, and a police car was sitting right there.

I think my out of state license plate had a lot to do with being stopped so many times for such piddling little infractions.

@Heartlander I did apply for a Michigan drivers license and received it, but moved back to Massachusetts before my registration had to be renewed.

My favorite (tongue in cheek) experience was ...

... when visiting a popular Texas city for a wedding I was ticketed for parking too far from the curb. I just so happened to have a tape measure and checked. One tire was an inch beyond the legal distance. But, I was parked in a parking bay, far out of the line of traffic, and it was a compact car. A truck parked in front extended at least two feet beyond me.

Later ... I was at the hotel, chatting small-talk waiting for an elevator, when someone mentioned that they had been arrested earlier in the day for getting married in the park without a "wedding in the park" city permit.

@Heartlander Wow. Sometimes it's just petty.

Couple of months ago, yet again I managed to be speeding via gravity (I was coasting down a hill)
Lilnonames · F
@xixgun u get fined
xixgun · M
@Lilnonames Yes but I was able to do traffic school (joke) and it was dismissed

@Lilnonames

That's a pretty stiff fine. How would someone earning minimum wage quickly come up with the money?

If I can come up with an answer to my own question, one way would be to not show up at court and instead go into hiding. But then the law goes after them like a steam roller the next time they are stopped.
