Skunk problem in my area

Apparently there has been a big problem with skunks in our area and I was outside at about 2:30 this afternoon and I smelled a slight hint of skunk and then I went inside after a couple minutes and heard gunshots from the neighbor and then a few minutes after that I was sitting in the living room and smelled skunk which was odd all the doors and windows were closed but it was that strong and our house is slightly drafty apparently the neighbors shot a skunk and killed it

At about 10 this morning there was another skunk maybe the same skunk in their yard and it happened to spray one of their dogs since this all started happening this summer they have killed about 3-4 skunks.
