What's your position on euthanasia?

Anne Bert (59)  is  a French writer who decided to go to Belgium so she could have the right to die. She suffers from  Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease a neurodegenerative pathology that leads to muscle weakness and paralysis.

From le monde:
In France, there is a right to "deep and continuous sedation until death" for patients at the end of life, under the Leonetti law voted in 2005. It is "sleep before dying so as not to suffer ". For euthanasia advocates, the Leonetti law has not closed the debate on the choice of end-of-life, and it is this choice that Anne Bert decided to make across the border Belgian, and explains in the French media where she is invited.
If anyone has a right to anything, then it's their own life. However. They need to be judged competant and not under mental duress. Duress passes. It needs to be a rational decision--not an emotional one. And, most suicides are a result of acute emotional distress. A mental health professional, maybe 2, and a doctor need to judge that the patient is in a stable enough state of mind to make an informed decision to take their own life.

I think if someone wants to spare themselves and/or their loved ones continual pain and suffering of a debilitating disease which no cure exists for, they should be allowed to die with dignity, provided that abuses of the system could be prevented (such as adult children trying to take away the rights of an elderly parent so he/she can be put to death) under such a law.

i would vote to make it legal where i live. i do believe it's a basic civil right to die to escape a life of profound suffering. there is a lot of room for corruption, we must be aware. and, so, it's very important that the choice is carefully documented and proved to be made by the individual to be euthanized.

I think it's fine. Unless you are very rich and plan to pay to make that woman comfortable (said sarcastically of course,) the only one that has to live with the disease is the individual. It's not up to us to make such a personal decision.

I'm against euthanasia; however, assisted suicide is something different. I want that option available for me.

It's a bad idea. If you die and you're not a Christian you're always worse off than you were.

I'm not against it at least for the nations that have good and responsible doctors.

IT has to be a matter of personal choice
