If they come out with a Covid vaccine, how effective will it be?

Will it be like the flu vaccine? Many take it and still catch the flu.
curiosi · 61-69, F
Gates has already stated multiple jabs will be necessary. It works out well that way for him. Lots of profits while the public gets lots of poison injected without being protected.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@curiosi Well, he is on the opposite end of the spectrum.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@ProfessorPlum77 Maybe for the same reason that Dr. Phil wrote a weight loss book.
Hard to know what that reason even is though.

@curiosi Bill Gay-tes.

Well this is a whole issue isn't it.. how safe is any vaccine? Many will tell you they are all completely safe, there is science to question that however.. Re the COVID vaccine, at present none have been adequately tested and none will have identified any long term risk.. So I wouldn't! And that's without even touching the debate re how effective they are.. there's a fair bit of evidence to question how effective normal vaccines are..
Peapod · 61-69, F
I know I don't want to be the first to get the vaccine until I know many have safely received it first.
@Peapod the other evening I was listening to a talk show and they were on about a report that came out in 2013.It was presented to the British government and ignored. It said the wearing of masks should be made compulsory to reduce the transmission of seasonal flu.The question was asked as to why no one thought that was a good idea.
I fear the wearing of masks will be will be with us for evermore which essentially renders me blind on public transport and in shops as it is impossible to stop my glasses getting fogged! We don’t as yet have to wear them in the open air.If that happens I won’t be able to go out at all!
Peapod · 61-69, F
@TheSirfurryanimalWales I thoroughly expect to be wearing them for sometime to come and I often sew up a new one to match an outfit I have. It seems silly, but it has helped me personally to accept them as part of my everyday life. I think I would feel naked without one.

With that said, I sure feel for you with the fogged up glasses deal. It's a very real problem for any of us that need them.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales As someone who has had the same issue for some time I may have a little advice. First, try different mask designs.. Those with a valve/vent on them often allow more air to find another way out.. Second, if the mask has a metal strip where the nose fits, shaping it hard against the nose will reduce air flow there. And you may find it possible to place your glasses on your hose with the mask between your nose and glasses, which also helps.
In addition I have new personal crack pot theory that if the glasses are warmed first. less condensation will form on them.😷

You do not know. Trusting pharmaceutical industries is no gonna
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Who knows?I won’t take the flu vaccine any more, last one was 25 years ago. I took it 3 years in a row and got paraflu all winter long every time
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@ProfessorPlum77 two of my sisters also get sick all winter when they take them but one hasn’t learned yet to stop getting them because doctors advise everyone to get them
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@cherokeepatti Yes, they do push it.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@ProfessorPlum77 Two nurses were giving them in Walmart this week asking everyone walking past them if they’d gotten their flu vaccine yet. I said No, Thanks! Loudly the first time and when I was leaving they asked again and I told the I would get paraflu all winter long every time I’ve gotten a flu vaccine...said it loud enough for others to hear
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
The first gen vaccines (assuming they ARE probably tested, are still likely to be less effective than the second gen caccines, simply because second gen will learn from the first..
What is now showing up is that Covid does leave behind a trail of organ and brain damage in some people. (Links to Parkinsons and some heart muscle damage are showing up already) And while a vaccine wont actually give you the virus, one that uses the virus substrate as its base (many of the first gen vaccines will) MAY carry those same risks into the body.. Thats not certain. But it MUST be tested for and that will take time. Therefore NY is sensible to say they want independent testing of any US vaccine before they accept it from a Trump controlled FDA and CDC. 😷

It is likely to be effective for around 50 to 60% of people if it's successful. Achieving more than that would be beyond expectation. That's my take on it.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@SW-User Not encouraging.

@ProfessorPlum77 that's about normal in most vaccines
All of a sudden the ‘we must have a vax’ ppl.. are against vax..

What they really mean is.. hey . No fair.. we had a plan for bill gates and big pharmas vax.. not a cheaper one from the FDA
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Evidence shows the Virus is mutating. So it is likely that at least annual varieties will emerge and best case seasonal injection programs similar to flu followed.😷
pentacorn · F
maybe. the good thing about getting the flu shot is, even if you still catch the flu, it's severity is mitigated. that would be highly beneficial in the case of covid.
pentacorn · F
@Peapod yes, it is. if there were ever a year to get a flu shot, it's this year. imagine having both the flu and covid. 😱 talk about nightmare scenario.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@pentacorn I cannot imagine! When I got my flu and pneumonia shot, the pharmacist told me that a lot more people are getting the vaccines this year. I wasted no time getting mine because I sure would hate to find out they ran out of vaccines in a year like this.
pentacorn · F
@Peapod ohmygosh... i hadn't thought of a potential shortage this year. well, my doc will surely hold one for me. she's the best. can't wait to get in to get it.
The big question is if it would be safe-vaccines usually take years to develop.Put me at the back of the queue.Only time would tell how effective it is.
I won’t have a flu jab- I’m concerned about side effects.
Pandemics come to end.It will be gone before a vaccine appears.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales No, it will not.
@QuixoticSoulAll other Pandemics came to end.Why should this one be any different?
But other pandemics didn’t have governments trying to stop people getting it.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales By the time something becomes a pandemic, there is definitely an organized effort to stop it. And the way pandemics end vary with methods and timescales. Some are only ended by vaccines (smallpox), others are still here (AIDS). This one is definitely going to be with us through the mass vaccination campaign. Vaccines are already here, after all.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
Flu shots are different, but considering you can get over the coronavirus and then get reinfected after beating it, I wouldn’t count on 100% lifetime protection from any vaccine. Still, it looks like the immune system gets a lot better at dealing with the virus the second time around, so it will still be very beneficial.
you are most likely correct. it might and might not help and vaccines have strange and often deadly side effects too. Not a great ttrack record for success....

btw I am a leftie and saying this.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Elevatorpitches A phenomenal record of success tbh. Despite nothing being perfect.

@MalteseFalconPunch There are six strains of Covid. So, six shots?

@MalteseFalconPunch Thank you.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
many will wait and see what happens to others taking it
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@FurryFace And I think in America that would be wise..The test process needs time that simply is not being taken. A stable effective vaccine is well into next year IF they are lucky.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@whowasthatmaskedman One company had to suspend testing.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@ProfessorPlum77 Those things happen.. I subject got sick.. It may be unconnected. But they have find out out why.😷
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Well in atleast 25 years no HIV vaccine but a “new” virus we have a vaccine on the way?
CestManan · 46-50, F
@MrBrownstone More like 40 years since HIV was discovered. They thought it was some kind of cancer at first. I remember them saying though since at least 1985 how they were working on finding a cure.

But yeah a covid vaccine won't hit the scene probably until after our generation is gone.

50% plus that's what many vaccines endpoint is in trials
smiler2012 · 56-60
professorplum77 i can understand you are sceptical about an injection for corona virus but they will be tried and test by expert scientists in this area before it is released for human use
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@smiler2012 I am just tired of all of the changing narratives, guidelines, political infighting, etc.

Nobody knows but I heard that for the vaccine to be approved it should be at least 50% effective or something like that
