I Feel Alone

Lying motionless, surrounded by these giant trees, dense, stretching into infinity. They all look so powerful and beautiful but so far away from the smallness of me. The ground is cold and yet comfortingly familiar and safe. It is cold but it's there and still and it holds the weight of me. There is no light shining through. The trees are so thick that all i can see is the movement that's happening on their trunks, on their branches, in their leaves. The animals scurrying with no direction, the insects caught up in their own tiny worlds of productivity and sameness, the shuffling of leaves with the shifting wind. It all consumes me as I lay here wondering where I am and feeling my aloneness like the darkness of an empty night sky. Darkness that swallows me until i am swirling without direction or control. The sounds around me...unpredictable, layered, intense, chaotic, terrifying. I breathe deep as I try desperately to find my own rhythm, my own direction, my own peace in the darkness, in the density of my emotion. The breath fills me with strength and resolution. And yet I am alone and scared.
