Sometimes the apple recognises the tree for what it is and rejects it completely.

Depends if the tree is a dick.

I've heard this phrase used mostly in a negative way...

So when the Dad is a cheating dick and then the son gets caught the same way... "Well I guess that Apple didn't fall far from the tree".

Yes I suppose it can be. I'm in the UK so we are miserable and negative about everything anyway. Haha.

It comes from all the shit weather.
