When you were a child did your family gather around the dinner table and had a warm cooked meal?

If yes, At what age did you stop having them?
MartinII · 70-79, M
Yes, always. Just me and my parents (no siblings). And it never stopped, as long as I lived there or when I visited after I had moved away. The only exceptions were when I or my parents were out in the evening for some reason. I took it for granted, but I realise now I should have been grateful.

Yes nightly and I still have them or if not a warm meal some type of set down family meal every evening.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@hami1091 Wow. That must be nice.
[c=#359E00]normally we are eat individually. We only eat together only on special occasion where we eat in a restaurant[/c]
@CrazyMusicLover [c=#359E00]but.. you still remember that much[/c] 😯 [c=#359E00]even some details like smell of the hotel and the soft carpet in the corridors, that's awesome. Maybe you were too young when making that igloo[/c]

smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F

exexec · 61-69, C
It never stopped.
whateverhappens · 26-30, F
Idk how people do that , everyone feels hungry at different times,i think people who do that tend to snack a lot more ...waiting on food for about 5-8pm and afterwards still hungry later...what do u reach for? Yup cookies n more
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@whateverhappens I don't understand it either. I know we had these dinners when I was a pre-school child but whatever I do I simply can't remember it except a few occasions. All I remember otherwise is eating some non-cooked food by myself when I came from school.
SaraxKay · 26-30, F
Yes, when I reached 12 or so we stopped doing it. There's a lot of people in my family and everyone just started doing whatever they wanted and stopped caring about family dinner.

They'd just pick up a plate and go eat wherever in the house.

Yes, we did every night. We stopped having them when I was 17 and refused to accompany my mother out to Nebraska for the summer.
SW-User
Yes. It stopped when I was a teen. There were too many people in the family and not enough table space, so I started eating by myself.
TageWestin · 56-60, M
Yes, very often until I was ... seventeen I think that was.
Melpomene · 22-25, F
Yes, same when I was a kid, mostly for celebrations
JBird · F
We used to do that after my father started to go downhill. He made fuss at the dinner and started to hit my autistic brother because he couldn't eat properly. Another time, that asshole put fish bones on the toilet and tried to blame it on me. After that we never ate with him.
SW-User
Yes. We still do that.
Casheyane · F
9 or 10 I think
We did for awhile. Until my grandparents died when I was 7.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Snowvixen :( I'm sorry.
@CrazyMusicLover It's okay. :)
SW-User
We stopped when my parents got a divorce.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@SW-User Sorry to hear that.
MrKota · 36-40
We did. It stopped happening once I was kicked out and disowned.
Ishtar · 22-25, F

Yes we did.

My two sisters and I no longer live at home on the tobacco farm we grew up on, but every night my parents convene at their dinner table for a continuation of what they've always done, minus three daughters of course.

And when my sisters and I go back home for regular visits, we all still gather at the dining table, still sit in our old 'places' at the table, still fight for space, still scream for my father to intervene if someone else sits in our place, but then when the dust settles and our father lays down the law for the ten thousandths time, those offenders in question take their correct spot at the dinner table and we all sit around and eat dinner and talk about our lives like the mature adults we were all raised to be.[/c]
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@swirlie What a lovely tradition! 😂😉
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@swirlie Lol, I love that description. 😁
