Would you raise your kids without a religion even if you have one ?

TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
I will be their god. :o

Then when they're at school and their friends are like "My dads a doctor", "My dads a nuclear scientist" "My dad is President Trump"
He can be like "Yeah, well my dad's god".

Then they can recruit their friends to worshipping me, and eventually I'll gain godlike powers through the entire generations devotion; then when they grow up they'll teach their children to worship me.

All shall love me and despair!

I would like the world to be like Australia in the 1970s.

And no symbols of any religion on display.

Certainly not in the workplace!

(Now you have to walk tippy toes...lest you offend anyone over their relationship with their particular “invisible, imaginary friend(s))

🙄

I no longer have a religion, but I believe that children should be made aware of different beliefs so they can make their own, informed, choices.
Well like a lot of people I wasn’t raised completely without a religion but my parents were not practicing and neither am I. My kids, if I choose to have them someday will have a choice.

I would teach them about atheism and all different religions and even paganism but I will always allow them to decide on what they want to believe in.

I don't follow any and I wouldn't raise them with any either.. it's up to them what they want to believe in once they're older

It's an individual decision for parents and kids, no right or wrong answer
@HannahSky I asked your kids.
HannahSky · F
@Underconstruction would I ask my kids? Yes when they're old enough and try to talk to them about it and what they want to do.

No. They should know the religion but it's ultimately their choice to follow it or not.

Faith in something is really important
midnightsun · 26-30, M
@Underconstruction you still didn't get my question

How do you teach them the importance of faith and belief?
@midnightsun You still didn't get my point. You want to make it all about religion and I don't see why that's needed. You can continue arguing by yourself if that's important to you.
midnightsun · 26-30, M
@Underconstruction it's not important but is there any other way to teach them faith and the power of belief?

I don't know.

I was raised Catholic for 18 years and my best friend was raised without religion.

I pray my son ends up more like my best friend than me.

My wife and I both fell out of Catholicism. We have raised our son without religion but I make sure he understands the concepts.

Yexbut it’s up to them what they want to believe it’s not me that is living their lives but I wouldn’t want to be deprived of the experiences of what they could be worth in life
StevenIzzi · 51-55, M
I am Jewish by blood (Not practicing) and my wife is not. We are not anti religion, but when my children are old enough and they decide to choose a religion then we will support them.

If I were religious I'm sure I'd urge them into my religion, but I wouldn't force them into it. My parent never forced me into Christianity.
SW-User
Having a religion would mean it being a part of things, but if they don't go along with it, all fine, as it can't be forced, if forced, it's of no value.
SW-User
No.
Sectarian separation is something I would avoid.
