Is it better to let the air conditioner/heating technician come out to run preventative maintenace or can I do it myself?

I watched what he did the last time.

depends if its a newer one you touch it you void the warranty

@MarineBob Yeah, it's still under warranty. But, the preventative maintenance isn't covered by the warranty.

like buying a new car, if you don't have it serviced you have no warranty

most companies can put you on a monthly payment plan where you don't have that big cash outlay at once

hmm.... tough call cuase there is certain things you can but if its anything to do withan hvac system your better off letting a certiefied tech handle it

If you have a reverse cycle air-conditioner it is very important to clean the filter, just wash it under water

They don't do anything that requires special tools and the charge a fortune. Do it yourself.

You can't do it yourself unless you know what's needed, beyond dusting it.

You can read up on it though.

And AC technicians loves to pretend to do something when they're not.

@MartinTheFirst I don't know what's needed. It's just that I watched him pretty closely the last time he was here.

I guess I will read up on it though and watch him again. I just thought... you know... maybe I could do it. It was interesting to watch him and he explained all the parts to me.

But, yeah that's pretty much what happened the last time... the guy went on and on about all the things he was doing with gauges and checking the pressure. I mean, I don't have any of those tools. But, it did seem like he was pretending to do stuff while he was dusting the coils and wiping them down with some solution that I think was just water and looking at stuff, and then telling me about how hard his job is.

I mean he was a nice guy and all and didn't seem to mind me watching. But, it just looked like something I could do. But, I guess you're right. I'll search for some stuff about it and see if he follows the steps.

@MarkPaul the solution is basically water and dish soap. He was seeing if there were any bubbles. It's really as simple as that. And unless he used any machines or tubes, he didnt really do anything besides seeing if the machine was okay.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@MartinTheFirst Damn! I knew it. No... there were no machines or tubes. I could do what he did.
