I think the key is to make sure your kid is playing an age-appropriate game. I would not let a 7 year old play GTA online. You don't know how many times I've been cussed out by a kid online on that game and its like "Where the hell is your mom?"

@JarJarBoom Too many parents don't do research these days. Games, shows, movies, anything.

@raysam363 I kinda think the whole violent situation boils down to people starved for attention, they'll write their manifesto online and go do something horrible because it makes people pay attention to them. I'm just guessing at this point with the last two that happened.

@JarJarBoom Agreed.

Levels of annoyance, anger, short tempered ness, and frustration go up as a result, but actual violent behavior? No I don’t think it is affected.

Yes. Almost everyone is capable of being pushed over the edge. Games like that weaken the inner moral “governor”, in a lot of people.

I'm pretty sure violence predates video games
@Tobasco lol The point I just made.

No, and neither did Bugs Bunny cartoons.
Violent people are what they are no matter what they watch or play

If they would, no one would go near Japanese and south Korean!

If anything, studies generally lean towards these games as being either an outlet for aggression or having no impact.
I play COD and I'm a pacifist and think guns should be greatly restricted. Also if video games cause violence what was the excuse for centuries of war before they were invented. Seeing the violence on tv is part of what lead to the Vietnam War protests. People are usually disgusted and disturbed by violence even when they are desensitized to it. Cause they know the difference between fantasy and reality unless they have a psychosis.

There's no 100% conclusive answer, but my feeling is that both violent and non-violent people are drawn to those games, and the game doesn't change the person much (if they are an adult). If someone is still developing, I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest it will have some impact.
It's proven that certain cartoon series and games in fact do.
@Zaphod42 So does vaping.... doesn't mean I'll wait for them to prove that it's harmful. I have that much common sense to decide what's good and what's not. Lolz....don't you?

Nice defection 😂@Vivaci

If common sense is what it takes to distinguish right from wrong, I will continue to feel unthreatened by people who play violent video games. @Vivaci

Years ago, there were correlations between violence on TV and real world violence. I'd like to see proof that no one, anywhere, isn't desensitized by all of the death-obsessed culture we live in.

That said, I am NOT for censorship. I'm for better mental health care. It's a fucking disaster in this country.
