Can't play Might and Magic Heroes VI. Help?

I bought it off Steam a while back. I try to launch it but it says it can't synchronize with my cloud saves. I click try again and nothing changes. I click skip and the game logo comes up like it's supposed to but then the whole screen goes black as if it's about to load (the mouse cursor changes to loading animation) and then it stays that way. For hours.

Anyone know a solution or is the game lost?
