"Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is the game of the year for 2017. But did it deserve it?

In my opinion? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Please don't misunderstand me; I love the game. It's gorgeous to look at, challenging to play, and so very absorbing with the open-world aspect. I just don't think it should have been a Zelda game. It was too disconnected from the franchise as a whole to be appreciated as such. And, take away the Zelda franchise labels from this game's elements, and what do you have? Yet another open-world resource-based game. And that is not game of the year-material.

I like Zelda ..but I hate the fan base ...ever read there comments online ? I have .
Same thing with them all..every Zelda game in existence should be number 1 on the list to them ....the water temple is still bitched about even today....people waste there lives over that fucking timeline and try to make zelda as deep as Lord of the rings lol.
They want romance in the games .
I got fed up with the series over them.

Hmm, I think it did. I'm not trying to be biased but the game is simply amazing. The environment is colossal, and very colorful. The music is also very good, nothing less from a LoZ title. Nintendo really hit it out of the park.

It's a good game...I just don't think it "does enough"

I believe it gets all these good ratings because it's Zelda, nothing more, nothing less...apart from that it's not industry defining.

@SW-User Ooh. Personally I would have given it to Cuphead, or even Super Mario Odyssey. Those are much more well-rounded cinematic experiences.

@SlickGracey Cuphead looked like a really interesting game, especially with the artwork and nostalgia, and how they didn't pull punches with the violence despite the cartoony history. But couldn't a similar thing be said - strip away the artwork and essentially you have just a platformer?
