I Like Looking At the Sky During Night

Clouds blotted out the stars, the moon, the sky... I could have been inside of a black box, devoid of any light. The air was cold. It had been raining hard an hour before, and by the look of those clouds, it wasn't finished. Reflecting on my last blind night time run, and remembering all too well the acrobatics involved in gracelessly flipping over a log... I opted to walk instead. Stubbornly, I moved farther and farther into the lightless void, until no cars, no people, no sounds touched me. I sat on a wet post. I let the dampness reach out for me, leech at my body heat... Maybe I was reaching for its chill too, because the cold crept into me and the warmth crept into the wood. I sat there... I don't know how long, eyes open, eyes closed, it didn't matter. I melted into the landscape... I reflected on the holy shrines of the ancients, built to deprive the devotee of all light... You have to do without something sometimes to fully appreciate it.
So while Sun worshippers of old contemplated life without the sun... or more appropriately the death of all things without the sun... and upon re-emerging into the spectacular light of day...
Tonight when I emerge into the darkness and look up to the night sky... Those stars will shine a little brighter... twinkle a little more brilliantly. And the moon... if she is willing... she will smile down ever more radiantly.

Thank you! The result of loving libraries more than stadiums, I'm afraid... LOL
Which also explains how one experience keeps distracting me with historical references LOL
