I Am A Jeans And A T-shirt Kind Of Girl

I was a teenager in the late 60s/early 70s and I remember the excitement when I was allowed my first pair of jeans. I was about 14 and my mother allowed me to choose which brand I would like and I remember picking a pair of Wranglers as they were very popular at the time and my best friend had a pair. The denim was so stiff when I first put them on I could hardly walk but I felt so proud when I met up with my friends in them.

Can you remember your first jeans?

Can't really remember the first pair, have worn jeans since quite young. Never liked them when they were still new and stiff. Better after they were washed a few times.

Did you ever have the pleasure of sitting in the bath with your Levis on waiting for them to shrink? Happy days!

I don't clearly remember my first pair. I was about 15 or 16 I think, and they were either Lee or Wrangler, a classic medium blue.

What I do remember clearly is the pair of Black Levi 501s I bought Summer '87, age 22, on the recommendation of a female friend who was doing her best to make me look cool (and largely succeeded).

Oh my God I loved those jeans, and only stopped wearing them when they wore through at the crotch. I still have them at the back of a cupboard somewhere for the sentimental value.

Levi 501's,... saved my weekend job money for ages... sitting in the bath in them thinking that the myth would come true... that they would actually shrink to fit

Apperently not.. perhaps I had the water too cold or too hot... or more likely there is not a pair of jeans yet invented that will fit my body in a good way!

I think I either wore hand me downs from my older brother or wore Roebucks, the Sears brand for my first.

@SW-User Sears and Roebucks was a sign of quality back then
Everything my family bought was from Sears and they bought the warranty
Nothing wrong with those my friend ,,,today ,full of holes you could get a fortune for them

I was in high school when I got my first pair and loved them. I still wear jeans everyday. I love them!

Yes. I think that they were just bog standard jeans and a light blue; I was not really into labels. I took a pair jeans that looked like they were made out of large regular squares. Anyway, I washed all my clothes together; all my whites ended up bluish white and my jeans were light blues with off whites streaks and patches.
I can remember the first ones I bought for myself—Levi’s denim 501 button fly, straight leg. I loved the way my tush and legs looked in them.

Hello Rebecca,
We are from the same generation (18 years by 1969).
I began using jeans since about I was 13, from a brand made in my country on those days.
I can´t really remember my first one.
But yes, jeans and T-shirts were the distintive look of our generation.
BTW, I still use them!

I'm pretty sure my first would have been Toughskins. They also were stiff, dark blue, and near impossible to walk in. It was cool to have them in that state, and now they sell them (for way more money) pre-torn.

Absolutely ,and my first pair of boots
I finally had a real pair of Levi's ,,not dollar store knock offs

Could you wear jeans to school when you were young
joe438 · 61-69, M
@jenmil I'm a few years younger than Rebecca54, and we were not allowed to. Boys had to wear pants like corduroys or chinos are now, and girls had to wear dresses and skirts. Jeans were never allowed.
Rebecca54 · 70-79, F
@jenmil No, we had to wear pleated knee length skirts until the 6th form (age 17) when we were allowed to wear black trousers.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
Did you only wear dresses and skirts before?
Rebecca54 · 70-79, F
@Mugin16 Yes - girls did in those days
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@Rebecca54 Lovely. They should still do that.
