Is it still possible to buy an old fashioned pager that works?

I mean the kind of thing that doctors took to concerts back in the 1970s that vibrates to let you know to phone a number...? Where would you get one and how would you activate it? Do they still exist? How do they work?

still had one in use 5 years ago. they tend to be able to get signal through to places where a cell may or can not work. I suspect they're still out there. I'm not sure what you mean by 'how do they work'. it's pretty similar to a cell phone texting. the better ones have a transmitter to respond back to the tower that the message made it.
pagers are still in use.

@AcidBurn: Good news! I want to hand out my phone number and have it be my pager number. Then phone back on my cell phone.

you can still get them, though they are getting rare. i don't miss them, they always went off at the wrong time. easier to silence a cell. your cell phone company can hook you up

@curmudgeon1968: Thanks, I'll ask them.

I think they still use them in hospitals.
