Im afraid of my body decomposing after death, what should I do?

I don't want my body to decompose and feed worms and birds.
I kinda want to be turn into a tree. I just think it’s better than people holding onto my ashes lol
@SweetNSassy be careful of what you
“Axe” for, lest a “Paul Bunyan should come upon you and cut you down!
KristinaM · 36-40, F
@SweetNSassy That’s my wish too.
@soar2newhighs I know that’s what my momma said too lol
Carissimi · 70-79, F
I try not to think about it. You can’t change the inevitable, so it’s counterproductive to dwell on it. I don’t want to be cremated or put in a box. I hate confined spaces. I’ve heard you can be put in a bag and have a tree planted on top of you. I’d rather do that and spread into the earth.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Carissimi I assume that more people are worried about the manner of their death rather than about death itself
Tennessee2 · 80-89, F
@newjaninev2 Maybe some of the atoms in my body will become part of Tennessee
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Tennessee2 Ask not what your State can do for you... 😀

Most bodies are embalmed and sealed in a coffin, which -- to my best understanding -- means that worms & birds can't get to it. It'll still decompose from bacteria though, unless you get it creamated or vitrified or some shit.
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
what we should be doing is composting our bodies or at least burn them and mix the ashes with fertilizer. for life to be sustainable everything i am made of must go back to what it was: topsoil. our poo also should go back to topsoil, its an ecological disaster that we send our poo to the ocean, our topsoil is getting thinner and thinner as time passes because we grow food on it, eat the food and send the poo to the ocean. terrible waste of important minerals.
Nobody00 · F
Ew WTF 🤮🤮🤮@reflectingmonkey i am not eating any tomatoes grown in peoples poo and burned body ashes what is friggen wrong with users on this site 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Tennessee2 · 80-89, F
@reflectingmonkey then my atoms will become part of a Tennessean's body.
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
@Nobody00 its how nature works and how it has always worked. what do you think happened to all the poo of all the animals that have existed since the beginning of time? part of the biomass is eaten and turned to poo then earth then plant again.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
I like the idea of a Tibetan sky burial. Hardly likely to have one though as i live in England. Bugger!
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Entwistle Thwarted by geography!
AbbySvenz · F
🤨 that’s sort of how it works, unless you get cremated...
TexChik · F
Embalming prevents or delays decomposition and will certainly keep the birds and worms away . caskets have to be placed in side a cement vault before being buried to prevent flooding from unearthing and rotting the corpses.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
Be cremated
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
In Victorian England they used to leave a cord leading from the coffin to a small bell mounted near the grave, and families would hire someone to stay near the grave for several days in case the deceased ‘revived' and needed to be rescued 😀
@newjaninev2 I’ve heard it stated that prior to embalming practices, a body would start emitting gases as it broke down and as those gases managed to penetrate through the soil especially at
night, would upon hitting fresh air, briefly glow.
The one phenomenon associated with a body’s break down despite embalming was exploding casket syndrome.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@soar2newhighs Ah yes, the dreaded exploding casket syndrome! 😀

Now you mention it, yes, I seem to recall something about the gases glowing.

Victorian graveyards must have been veritable hives of activity. Bells ringing, coffins exploding, gases glowing...
@newjaninev2 And the” walking dead“ “aka vampires” ; those poor souls thought dead, buried, only to awaken entombed but some lucky enough to have gotten out, only to be seen by those who thought them departed.
Well at death your body starts the process. It is inevitable. If you’re really worried donate your body to science or consider cremation
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@soar2newhighs One would think that some medical school or research institute would be grateful and eager... but alas, it’s not always so.

Still, at least they no longer rob fresh graves to obtain their cadavers 😂

@soar2newhighs On a related note...

@newjaninev2 well aware of the body farm. Read a book or two
On it/fascinating.
Nobody00 · F
Lmao. You won’t care after death
Donate your body to science
Donate it to science
ahiyaa · M
get cremated then
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
Isn’t that a little unfair? How many plants and animals have you eaten during your life?
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
Pass on near the banks of the river, you'll be taken mind body and soul into the Mississippi
ice. ice baby . to cold too col
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
