In your experience, computer games of which age are outdated technically?

Meaning that today's computers couldn't support them anymore?

A lot of my old favorite games don't work on modern computers. Some of them do, though, so it's kind of a toss up whether or not a game is going to work. And then some have different degrees of working.

One game will load the opening movie and main menu just fine, but then crash when you try to play it. One game will load, but it was coded so that the timing engine is based on processor speed, so it runs super fast and is impossible to play. Another game will work perfectly fine, but the shadows won't render properly for whatever reason. Some run for about a half hour and then crash. And then some just work.

What this tells me is that games are made of scrapped together code bits that no one truly understands, and it's a miracle any of them actually worked. It's like they're all being held together with duct tape and paper clips, and you never know when they're going to give out.
