why does 2/3 equal 0.666666666666666667?

Why is there a 7 at the end of the 6's???

The answer has to do with useful utility in solving formulas at or current level of technological reach. Likely the smallest measurable dimension used in lab research is in the field of light travel distance speeds. Scalar multiplied creating speed differential frequencies far beyond the old ideas that science used to believe about light. The yoctosecond is a septillionth of a second. Hence we need to round off the repeating decimals to that place for consistency.
There isn't. The 7 is there because a 6 got rounded up. The 6 repeats indefinitely.

I does not really 2/3 is a non terminating repeating decimal that goes on for ever. .666666666666666666666........ However, if you could divide it by 2 then multiply by 3 it would equal 1.

.999999999999999999....... = 1

thats an irrational question

(dont often get to make (bad) math jokes)

@Bewilderbeeste Math. It's an abbreviation of the adjective not the noun
Bewilderbeeste · 61-69, M
@firefall We don't abbreviate the adjective, only the noun. So the word in that case is "mathematical".
firefall · 61-69, M
@Bewilderbeeste why not?

wow 7 views how ironic
@Victorian Irony means an event contrary to what was expected. It doesn't mean coincidence (that's a common misunderstanding of the word). The dictionary also states it: "an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected".
Bewilderbeeste · 61-69, M
@Existentior Nothing is ever a coincidence, didn't you know that?
@Bewilderbeeste Yo, meddle elsewhere.

It stops the 66's from falling out...
everready71 · 51-55, M
When you get to the end of the 6's, there are an inifity more. So mathematicians are lazy and round up the last 6 they can be fussed to write to a 7.
SteelHands · 61-69, M
@everready71 Lazy as 1 2 septllion. Lol

There isn't a 7 in it. It's sixes all the way forever.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
There isnt. It's simply a lack of more decimals
