If you're a professor who challenges the identity politics of the far left and far right, the leftist media call you "alt right intellectual"

Did this happen to you. Or is there an article you are referring to?
Ynotisay · M
@St0ut I'm guessing she (or more likely 'he') is referring to Jordan Peterson. He gives cowardly white boys a platform. While not a public proponent of the alt-right, sort of the way Trump plays it, his message appeals to them. He's a hero in those circles so the conclusion is pretty easy to draw.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Ynotisay Don't assume my gender. Did you watch his lectures and read his books?:)
St0ut · 51-55, M
@Ynotisay so. White males are not allowed to have a platform ?
HausOfLuna · F
@Ynotisay so I misread your reply.

"cowardly white boys"?

Smh 😒
Ynotisay · M
@St0ut Sure they can have a platform. They can be as weak and cowardly as they like as long they don't break the law.

@cunningcrocodile Ah...so I was right, huh? That wasn't too hard.
I'm going to slow your roll a bit. You're talking about NBC News as the "leftist media" who called him an alt-right intellectual, correct?
Here's what they really said.

"In the past two years he's been adopted as a hero by the Donald Trump-loving alt-right."

Do you want to disagree with that? You'd be wrong if you did.

So what YOU did, which is very common among the "news" sources I'm sure you visit, is take one thing, change it around and poof! It becomes a new thing that you take as fact.

So...yeah. Your call but it's just not something I'll ever understand.
St0ut · 51-55, M
@Ynotisay you are a racist
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Ynotisay So, I take it you've read Peterson's books and watched his lectures? :) Considering you have such a grand understanding of his ideas.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@St0ut He is, you should report him.
Ynotisay · M
@St0ut HA. Yeah. Racist. That's what it is fool. I'm racist against cowards who happen to be white. Good call bud.

@cunningcrocodile So NOW you're taking the next step. Ignoring what I stated, which was fact, and defending something other than what you stated.
Please don't play that with me though, ok dude? It's sort of insulting.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Ynotisay I wasn't ignoring you, as I already asked you that question, which you ignored. Then you asked me about NBC. Genius.
St0ut · 51-55, M
@Ynotisay you said whites as a group are cowards if they speak.
You generalized a group without reguard of the the individual.

That is the definition of racism
HausOfLuna · F
@St0ut Race had nothing to do with this post initially. Kind of reminds me of the time JP was called a "mean, mad white man" by Dyson during a debate that also had nothing to do with race.

Nothing new.
St0ut · 51-55, M
@HausOfLuna no not. Brought race into this because he is a racist
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@St0ut He also vanished after I asked whether he'd read Peterson's works, considering he apparently knows him so well.
Ynotisay · M
@HausOfLuna OK. I'll bite because you at least posed that as a legitimate question. Although I'm pretty sure that wasn't the real intention.

What Peterson does is prey on fear. Only what makes me him a bit different than most is that he uses his own take, emboldened with a psychological meets religious base, to manipulate. So the result is someone feeding others a roadmap in how to live life. Of course, in his world white privilege doesn't exist, white men are oppressed, academia is the devil, social justice is a "Marxist lie" and and he clearly puts down women so men can feel better.

The fear and cowardice comes in to play on a couple of levels as I see it. Fearful people tend to glom on to those individuals or organizations(ie religion) who will make them feel strong. That's Peterson in a nutshell. That's what his 12 rules of life are based on. And the other is that things that are different pose a threat to the fearful. Again, this is Peterson's wheelhouse.

He's been debunked as a psychologist but not as a provocateur. And his pseudo-science weapon gives those prone to conspiracy and the idea of "enemy" a platform that provides his believers with a "scientific" smokescreen.

So yeah...he's not appealing to those who are strong. He appeals to those who are lost and afraid.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Ynotisay You never told me whether you've read his works and watched all of his lectures, or not? Because then I could understand you making sweeping generalisations and smears of his character. So, have you?
Ynotisay · M
@cunningcrocodile I 'vanished" because I work for a living dude. I also spent a little time responding to another question that I took to be relatively sincere. Unlike engaging in your "polly want a cracker" nonsense it seemed to be a better use of my time.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Ynotisay It's quite noticeable that you are dodging answering whether or not you've read his works and watched all of his lectures, or not? Because then I could understand you making sweeping generalisations and smears of his character. So, have you?
Ynotisay · M
@cunningcrocodile "Report him." The PERFECT response from strong alt-right! Run to Mommy!!! You guys just blow my mind.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Ynotisay You blow my mind with dodging my question, yet again :)
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Ynotisay and yes, I do report racism.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile Have you actually made your way all through Mein Kampf? Because I haven’t, which obviously makes me incapable of judging Hitler and his views 🤷‍♂️

Never read the little red book either.
Ynotisay · M
@St0ut No kid. What I SAID, which you can READ, is that he gives cowardly white boys a platform. You can't disagree with that because it's true. Now if you can't point to a huge Peterson following of African Americans, Latinos or Asians then I'll consider and possibly recant.
But I don't think 'ya can. But please feel free to try and I'll consider that.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@QuixoticSoul I'm not making statements about Hitler, though.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Ynotisay So, if you have not read his works or watched his lectures, then I don't care for your ignorant view of him. Just like someone's view on the Harry Potter books would be ignorant if they hadn't read those.
