Dors anyone know how YouTube works?

I looked up something on YouTube over a week ago. It turned out that it was very disturbing stuff. Maybe that was because I saw it right before I had a really bad prolonged 8 day panic attack that put me in the ER. I am certainly not saying that YouTube caused a panic attack. According to the psychiatrist I saw, the prolonged panic attack has a mostly physical cause and anything at all can trigger it. Also, I do have some serious stress right now from some things going on in my life. So YouTube isn't to blame.

However, I would like to NOT have anymore of what I accessed come up on my screen and every day more of it keeps appearing on my screen. It is stressful to see it.

Is there a way I can get YouTube not to show me certain subject matter? I know that if I ignore it, it will probably fade away eventually. But I would be much happier if I could avoid seeing it altogether. Can I get rid of it? Or do I need to just wait it out?

I am trying to remove at least some of the disturbing things in my life that cause unnecessary stress.
You can change in the settings the level of content that you want to see. I did that with my little sister. You can block 18+ content or you can use the side bar to say you’re not interested in the content, so then YouTube will learn your preferences.

@MorbidCynic Thank you. Not sure where settings or sidebars are on YouTube but will try to do this.

You can reset the YouTube recommendations.

Here's a video tutorial for it

@Beatbox34 Wow, thanks. I will watch that.

@greenmountaingal Your welcome. I hope it helps you

Just don't search for that stuff.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@smileylovesgaming I only searched once and now every day more videos come up on the same subject.

@greenmountaingal that is all it takes.

@smileylovesgaming Also, do not assume this is some kind of evil stuff or porn or something like thst. I did not mention what I had specifically accessed for two reasons: First, it is a subject that is seen by a few as controversial and I was afraid those few would divert the conversation here to a heated, irritating and unnecessary debate. Second, discussing the subject itself would have the potential to trigger anxiety or panic; I just got out of the hospital where I was for a panic attack and advised to keep my life relatively stress free for a while.

Don’t look whatever it was up again
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@BrattyMel Obviously, I won't. But when you look up something and view it, it then gives you 10 more of the same subject. So now I can't go on YouTube without immediately encountering a bunch of videos on the same subject.

Don’t watch them @greenmountaingal
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@BrattyMel I haven't and won't, but it keeps coming up and it would be easier for me if I could just banish them all. I will live with it if I have to but thought I might find a way to stop them from coming up. I suppose if I ignore them, they will eventually fade away but would prefer they stop now.

What did you look up?
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@SW-User For various reasons, I would rather not say. Discussing it could trigger more panic attacks for me right now. Don't mean to be mysterious, it's not that bad or unusual, just would rather not say.

You can tell YouTube to stop recommending videos to you. I don't remember exactly where you click though. If you Google "stop showing me YouTube recommended" you'll probably find your answer. Hope this works for you.

@DDonde Thank you. I will do that. They always seem to recommend the last things I want or need to see right now.
