Would you agree to a heart transplant?

[c=#BF0080]
Research has shown recipients of a heart, for transplant. display a significant change in behavior and tastes afterwards.

After investigations and studies, researchers have found these behaviors and tastes are exactly like that of the donor. This is due to the heart having similar electons and neural activity similar to the brain.

Would you agree to a heart transplant if it changes who you are?[/c]

The alternative is dying. So, it's either a personality change, or a coffin.

I've spoken to a couple of people, one is my mom, and another a friend (now both gone), who told me that they both experienced personality changes, following heart bypass surgery.

@Northwest interesting stuff..

Interesting question: First off, I wouldn't be seeking a heart transplant, because I don't cling to my life very tightly. BUT... If I were in that situation, I would review the research and want to know about the life of the donor first, to decide if I wanted their heart, or not.

@CC67219 Good point... There might not be enough time to find out much about the particular donor. It's a great question that you asked... It just won't apply in my life because I would never be a candidate for a heart transplant.

Never know....anything can change at any time

@CC67219 Not likely for me... my life expectancy isn't very long. I would never be a candidate for a heart transplant because of my motor neuron disease (ALS).

@PraiseTheLord lets hopethey were!

yes if it meant noticeably longer life. Read where folks have played instruments they never played before after organ transplants. Hypothesis is that memory is distributed across neural system.. not just in brain
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Never knew that very interesting , if it saved my life yes, and take the chance and see if it does change me
CC67219 · 41-45, F
@Nyloncapes could end up howeling at the moon and barking at strangers...lol

Which proves that the heart is a lot more than just a pump.

I think if I had a strong reason to live then maybe.
CC67219 · 41-45, F
@SW-User but...would you be living or the other person through you....?
SW-User
@CC67219 I don’t know. It’s such an overwhelming thought.

By the time you're a candidate for a transplant it's usually have the operation or die.
CC67219 · 41-45, F
@Shayla would dying be so bad...the next great adventure
Shayla · F
@CC67219 That depends on how much you value your life

If you are going to say researchers have found. Please quote the research. Rather than hearsay.
CC67219 · 41-45, F
@Andy72 scary thought huh?
Heres one but if youre interested look it up.... 😉 you'll find arguments aginst and for BUT it doesnt explain the experiences of those receiving the organ.

CC67219 · 41-45, F
@Dan193 red or black?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@CC67219 I like the red. Can't stand the black.

Transplanting heart wouldn't change a person's nature to an extent that would make them look like a different person, habit or personality wise. So, transplant any day. And, people with pacemakers or transplanted organ, go through multiple restrictions and are forced to lead their life differently. I can't recall reading any serious data which claim that changing any major organ, including heart can bring drastic changes.

No but not for that reason.
