What do you do if the cooling fan on your laptop is supposedly not working?

I got a message saying that the cooling fan is not working properly, that it could result in system damage, shutting down, data lost Etc. Then it powered itself off like it said it would .

What should I do? Get it looked at at a computer shop? Or just Get a cooling fan table thing? Will that resolve the problem?

One of those table fan's would be a short time fix. But you need a cooling fan fix

You have to fix it. It is a laptop, no way to cool it from the outside.

The fan has to be replaced for it to work, or cleaned depending on he state of it. If you’re confident enough you can open it up yourself carefully and clean the inside with a can of pressurized air, see if that works. If not you can buy a new fan, but you don’t sound like you know much about computers so rather than wasting money on a fan that won’t fit or accidentally breaking something I’d say just take it somewhere and have it looked at.

@Phire1 you mean now to reclaim the gold ?or repair lap tops ,now laptops are easy ,but now like with a tower I know what I'm doing .as to the gold lots of toxic chemicals and lots to time consuming work cutting the parts you want out of mother boards ,ram and the old processors ,more time than I want to put into it .
but my brother has all the chemicals and a machine that will extract the gold ,
he gets truck loads of old computers and phones (the old ones )
I think I am going to let him have them ,
I have grown tired of a bunch of old computers taking up room in my shed ,
The ones I keep up that have thousands of games on them ,
from time to time my family and I like to play them ,,the rest ,
they just take up space and make me feel like a hoarder LOL

@rckt148 I would never allow anyone to have any comp without my wiping it clean

@Phire1 no I keep all the hard drives
I do break the old ones down for the aluminum ,and the killer magnets
When I am done with one there is nothing except the gold of any value

I tear mine down and clean the fan ,but if you have no clue how and it has already shut down on you ,,
Yea I would just have it replaced
Over heating the processors for just an instant can damage them ,
but good news is thats why it shuts down when they get a certain temp
to keep that from happening .
Since they have to tear it down anyway ,I would go with changing mine instead of just cleaning it ,its cheap and will give you a lot longer time before it happens again ,
I clean mine like once a year and my laptop is old ,I am still using a duel core
but if you don't know how ,then its time for a trip to the doctor

Take a can of compressed air to the intake and exhaust vents. If that doesn't work, replace the fan, cleaning with compressed air as you go.

Just buy a cooling fan part, take out the defective part, install the replacement.

My laptop overheats all the time and sometimes shuts off. I do have a house fan blowing on it when I use it. Doesn't always work. I would take my laptop apart to clean it but I'm kinda afraid that I might mess it up more than it is. So, I will probably take it to a comp shop soon

I’d just replace the fan.

Computer-specialty stores will most likely sell the fan as a replacement part. They may even offer repair services if you're squeamish about doing it yourself.

Either way, don't run the computer if your fan's not working. You will cause further damage.
