If I take the battery out of an android and put it back in will I lose my contacts, photos, etc?

My phone is stuck. All I have is a black screen showing the time and date, with the time not updating. It's almost an hour behind now. I can't get it off of that screen, and it won't even turn off. I'm tempted to take the battery out but I'm afraid I might lose everything. Does anybody have another suggestion?

You're supposed to do that from time to time while it's on. It's perfectly fine.

No all that is saved. The only way you’d lose that stuff is with a factory reset
no that would be like turning your computer off. all of that data is saved on the hard drive. only way to lose your data would be a factory reset. might want to have your phone checked. maybe something wrong with the hardware or a bad update

I imagine battery won't affect it.
Tried going to the makers website see if they have a fault-finder thing ?
Failing that, try youtube.

@Picklebobble2 A quick search didn't return anything on this particular issue. That was a good suggestion, it just didn't work this time.

@NorthernBear What is the phone ?

@Picklebobble2 It's an android that's about a year and a half old, recent model. But the issue is resolved. I went ahead and took out the battery and it worked. Thanks.

removing the battery should not remove anything from your phone. It's just another method of restarting it. It does nothing more than unplugging and replugging a desktop computer.

no you won't. Taking out the battery doesn't reset it back to factory mode. But to be safe, you should take it to a repair shop.

You should be ok as contacts are either stored with google account or in phones non volatile memory, but there's no gaurentee.

I went ahead and did it. I don't seem to have lost anything. Thanks for your answers.

Removing the battery shouldn't cause you to lose anything.

If your phone has an SD card slot you might want to back up your pics onto that at sometime soon. Phones are fragile.
Yes... the back up battery is missing...they are so greedy
