Depends on the form of mercury..
contact with metallic mercury could be hazardus if you ingested it, or it's oxide..
washing your hands if you've handled it is highly recommended..
Mercury metal or even mercury oxide are very difficult for your body to absorb..
the greatest threat would be through inhalation..
prolonged exposure could cause brain damage...

mercury is only poisonous if it gets into your blood stream. it's harmless when in contact to the skin. you can literally dip your hand into liquid mercury that nothing will happen.

Mercury metal forms a layer of oxide..(rust) on it's surface..
getting it on your hands and then eating something without washing first would be hazardous...

it's stupid to touch bare mercury -.- it may get into contact with other surfaces and eventually it will get into your bloodstream. you should only play with it if you have chemistry knowledge and take precautions. go read about mercury effects. and if you want to play with liquid metal just choose gallium.

I dropped a glass thermometer in the sink once when I was really little. I remember after I broke it playing with the little silver balls with my finger and thought they looked like those silver cake decorations. I think I turned out ok. I think.
