Do you enjoy astronomy?

Been keeping up with the Juno mission? They just released a new set of images showing a time lapse of Jupiter's south pole, pretty fascinating stuff. They had them arrayed as a row of static images but I assembled them into a gif so you could better see the rather subtle movement between frames.

And for a higher resolution shot of what the south pole looks like, also taken by Juno.

Also, for any who may wonder, no the north pole doesn't look the same. They're actually quite radically different, which has scientists pretty puzzled. This one of the north pole taken by Cassini.

It's almost like one pole is land (or whatever the equivalent would be for a gas giant) and the other pole is waterlogged (again, whatever that equivalent might be). XD

@SW-User Gas and gas. :P Go deep enough into a gas giant and it eventually transitions into metallic seas, but no one really has any idea what those actually look like. Hahaha. It's really incredibly neat though, the dramatic difference has a lot of scientists wondering if this is a stable system of each kind at the poles or if we're looking at transient phenomena for each.

@UndeadPrivateer Maybe indeed :? For now, I'll stick to game design stuff because I'm nowhere near smart enough to understand astrophysics and what have you.

@SW-User Heh, one can always just look at them as pretty pictures and natural works of art. Which they certainly are. 😌

@DilbertTrump Best be lookin' out for any eldritch abominations emanating from there if your rectal cavity looks like Jupiter.
Ooo the pictures are so pretty.

@Stark I know, right? :D @summersong and I were just gawking at them. :P

Nah, I’m into hookers and alcohol
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@BozoBoy Not hookers, blow and blackjack?
that's creepy looking.
These are awesome

@Stereoguy The one from the amateur astronomer who was setting up his telescope? Yeah, super neat.
