I Always Have a Song Stuck In My Head

That's true. That happens to me to. Lyrics for life...🙃

@Bean17: For me it started in my 50's or so. Until then I had not really separated the lyrics from the song. Unless it was very simple, like "I love you" over and over and over, the lyrics just flew by, more like the voices were musical instruments and not so much like reading poetry or people expressing themselves or feelings. Beyond the "hook" lines they could have been humming for all I knew :)

For me, the transition was pretty sudden. A few long road trips alone, listening to NPR meaty type programs where songwriters or program hosts spent time talking about the inspirations behind songs, or the history, and with just a little effort to pay more attention the lyrics suddenly popped out. It was like a revelation. Until then it didn't matter who had written the song because I wasn't listening to the song anyway :)

Since then it was like a new world opened up. What a joy.

@Heartlander: That's awesome!🙂 Something similar happens to me sometimes when I read lyrics written out without hearing the music with them. It's like I never really heard the lyrics cuz my brain had been distracted by the music. But separated out--it's like getting a whole new perspective.🙃
