Makes sense actually :)
I used to be really good about being able to feel them on me before they were able to attach, but that ability fades with age, I guess. I don't usually worry about it too much. likely not as much as I should.
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
@stound I have never been able to feel them crawling or biting. It's always like a day later when I accidentally notice them attached and have to pull them out.
@FaeLuna I can understand. I think I just learned how because I grew up in the middle of a forest. learn how or pull ticks every other day.

It's kinda like when you (accidentally) find a big spider. Revoking it's life is a lot better than losing track. You never know where it is, but it probably knows where you are.
deadgerbil · 22-25, F
Idk. I remember having an tick crawl onto my leg, with me having enough time to flick it off before it bit me. I'd feel less anxious in repelling ticks entirely than finding one on me.
silver1985 · 36-40, M
Not really, no. Because then you're checking everywhere making sure there aren't anymore and then your skin crawls for hours afterwards. Lmao

Spiders and stuff don't bother me, ticks creep me tf out though.
silver1985 · 36-40, M
@FaeLuna Mosquitos don't bother me much aside from being a nuisance.

Anything that literally burrows itself in your skin can go somewhere else though. Far away.
I had the experience of one of those burrowing into my neck when I was younger, that memory stuck with me.

I keep a safe distance from spiders too, not afraid, but don't want to get into a situation with them. It's a healthy respect. Lol

@FaeLuna Leeches creep me out.
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
@FlowersNButterflies I don't like swimming in lakes and rivers specifically for this reason. I watched a news feature on medicinal leeches, and even that creeped me out. No thank you.
SW-User
Damn I can't stand them. I get paranoid af when I go out in the woods.
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
@SW-User I love the woods! I hate the parasites! This is not a good combination to have.
exexec · 61-69, C
I have had that experience. As a kid, I spent most of my summer hours outside in pine woods with no insect repellent, which wasn't commonly available. I always found a tick or two, plus thousands of chiggers, but if I didn't find a tick, I stressed until I found at least one.
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
@exexec Even with repellant, I seem to attract insects, mosquitoes most of all. I could be outside in summer for all of five minutes with no repellant and have like 10 bites on any exposed skin.
exexec · 61-69, C
@FaeLuna My wife is a mosquito magnet.
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
@exexec I'm so sorry. I know that pain all too well.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
I had around 18 last year, then treated the yard and not one more. My husband got his first one. Irony. I can feel them even when very small. Perhaps allergic? So they get one bite, not a second.

It's better to do a good job covering up - tuck those pantlegs into your socks! I had one bite, not Lyme but caused a fever, it was easy to treat with an antibiotic. Seems nerdy, but after you get a tickborne illness you don't care so much 🤓
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
@fun4us2b Long pants, heavy socks, boots, long sleeves... It's hot, but effective!
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@FaeLuna We have fine mesh clothes to wear on top.
