Some people think their opinion is fact. That would be the only time I would say something like that, when somebody's trying to force their opinion on me and acting like my opinion is wrong.
And arguing over opinions is an exercise in futility. Adding facts like links, or polls can be helpful, though. Truly useless is dragging in religion, or trying to use it to shame another person ("judge not", a dumb idea if ever there was one").
