Provided that I continue to do the next right thing, I'll have 39 years of sobriety in January. I joined AA in 1982. That made all the difference.
Iwillwait · M
@AllAboutLaffs welcome, that's a really great testimony.
AllAboutLaffs · 70-79, M
@Iwillwait I was lucky that I decided to listen and learn
Iwillwait · M
@AllAboutLaffs recovery is a ful time job. Good for you.

I fell into rehab after a nurse I trusted recommended it. It was that or drink myself to death. All kinds of addiction treated via 12 Step Minnasota method.

8 weeks as in patient, 2 months day programme 1 year aftercare. 16 years 12 Step fellowship. 16 years sober.

Good luck
CantExplain · 61-69, M
@SW-User Congratulations on 16 years
SW-User
@SW-User that’s about as long as I’ve been alive

Just to reduce your sentence?
SW-User
@SW-User well like I mean . I have to get clean and I don’t want to go back to jail
SW-User
@SW-User I just stopped drinking
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
Mention money and that makes me think straight.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
I just stopped drinking
SW-User
That easy huh @vetguy1991
TexChik · F
Staying in jail will definitely get you sober and the probation year afterward will guarantee it with all the testing each week. Rehab is for people who actually want to change and get better.
SW-User
@TexChik unfortunately I think you've never been in a prison. Drugs and drink are easily available it is one of the hardest places to get and stay sober.
Iwillwait · M
1st of all, don't think, just do it. The Judge will give zero merit to an idea that obviously looks like a contingency plan. Check your self in and the leverage has begun in your favour 100%.
SW-User
Ugh !! More work!!! Lol jk @Iwillwait
Iwillwait · M
@SW-User not really, set an appointment with Social Services and get a on a waiting list, give that to the judge.
SW-User
@Iwillwait thank you
SW-User
I pulled my head out of my ass, and thought about how it affected the others in my life.
Iwillwait · M
To answer your primary question, GOD delivered me from that bondage.
I went to rehab for 65 days, but I seriously jumped off the wagon yesterday. I'm lucky to be alive. sheeesh!
@cherokeepatti Yeah I have the high definition movies playing on my eyelids right now. That always happens when I over-do it.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@puck61 Why did you do it?
@cherokeepatti I haven't a clue.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Sober is a good way to go through life.
CantExplain · 61-69, M
I had a moment of clarity during which I saw what I had become. I started going to
a 12-step program. Nineteen years sober now. It IS possible to get clean and sober. There is a saying that if we don’t, we end up locked up, shut up or covered up.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
I got a job.
SW-User
One day I just looked at my jar of moonshine and said Popcorn Sutton my ass, this is rubbing alcohol !!
SW-User
@SW-User true story
SW-User
@SW-User sorry
SW-User
@SW-User no just kidding never drink rubbing alcohol it can kill you.. I drink but not much. Was just joking but never drink stuff like that it could kill you in a bad way sorry was just joking
SW-User
Ps one of my good friends only went to rehab after a judge offered it instead of a custodial sentence. She's been clean and sober ever since. Best decision she ever made.
SW-User
@SW-User I hope the judge sees this and some compassion for me
ArtieKat · M
I fell in love - and she gave me an ultimatum. After a while off the booze I was able to drink in moderation without alcohol abuse.
DestroyerOfIdeologies · 22-25, M
Porn. Rather spend my money on porn than getting drunk or drugs.
bearinthehalfwayhouse · 26-30, M

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F

Have you had your court date yet? If not do you have an attorney. I got a dui years ago and I think it really helped get a better end result.
SW-User
@NotJamieM not gonna discuss my legal matters in Public anymore lol

Realize the life you’d live if you set your overall goals a bit higher
CantExplain · 61-69, M
@DownTheStreet I couldn’t imagine how full my life could be after getting sober.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@CantExplain addictions crush hope to the point one doesn’t even realize they don’t have any
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
I didn't stop...I have cut down on my drinking from what I used to when I was young, but I still get drunk more often than I should.
bearinthehalfwayhouse · 26-30, M
I didn't... I just let that part of me run wiiiiiiiiiild!!.. Within reason, of course... ┬┴┬┴┤•ᴥ •ʔ/
SW-User
I got lucky. I just stopped wanting it. Drink and drugs just don't do it for me anymore so there's no point. I do get the temptation at times but I know they won't help.
