How can we persuade the SW admin to forbid members to be rude to each other?

They don't seem to do much about it when we report trolls for being abusive. What else are we supposed to do?

You can't. If you prefer that everyone acts a certain way, either start your own site and make the rules, or find a site that's more in line with your sensibilities

@Glambarber I don't and SW says they don't either.

What is the acceptable behavior on Similar Worlds?

Behavior Rules For Similar Worlds

Be welcoming.

Be kind and friendly.

Be clear and constructive when giving feedback, and be open when receiving it.

Add positiveness to the conversation.

Talk to others the same way you'd like others to talk to you.

Know when to stop. If a situation makes it hard to act kindly, stop participating and move on.

No name-calling or personal attacks.

If you don't have anything positive to say about someone, or to the subject, just don't say anything.

No discrimination.

Do not say anything that is likely to offend or alienate people based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion.

No harassment.

This includes bullying, intimidation, vulgar language, direct or indirect threats, sexually suggestive remarks, patterns of inappropriate social contact, and sustained disruptions of discussion.

No offensive, hateful, revolting or disgusting images.

You may like the images, but other people may not welcome them. Please think twice before posting them, and please ensure they follow our Terms of Service.

Avoid sarcasm.

Tone is hard to decipher online.

When others aren't having the best behavior with you, the best thing to do is just ignore them and block them.

There is no reason to win an argument. Ignoring them shows a lot of maturity from your side.

If you continue the argument, it will only make things worse, and you will end up being offensive and go against the Terms of Service like the other user already has been.

I don't think many people read these rules or apply them, though.

Of course not.

To combat these issues admin has created a site in which they have put the power in the hands of the users. If you find someone offensive, you have the report feature in which you can report their abusive behavior and you have the ability to block them. After you block, they can't see you or interact with you, and vice versa. If these people are consistently abusive with members, eventually they will get suspended. This is actually one of the better sites for that.

Behavior online has become increasingly aggressive and nasty. There's no way anyone can predict when it happens so there are tools in place here to help us. Why is that not enough for you?

@Glambarber Unfortunately, we can't suspend a user just because there was a conflict between them and another user. That would wipe most of SW, Facebook, YouTube and pretty much most of the internet. However, like it's been said here already, if the user persists in being troublesome, we will suspend them at some point.

I agree it's not necessary, but you can't control people's behavior online, just like you can't control it in real life. They ban someone, and the person comes back as another user. People spend time figuring out how to get past the programming blocks. You really are asking for the impossible on a site that has as large a community as this one does.

What you need is a smaller site that has a more conservative approach to things and will do more to control inappropriate behavior Check out answermug.com. I think you'll find the people there who more in line with your way of thinking. I haven't been there for a while but there was a nice group of people on the site.

@Glambarber She is IMO. But, if you want to have freedom from people you feel are abusive, the online community is extremely small and she runs the site in the manner you prefer.

Apologies to Nuno for advising you to go to another site but there is a limit on what admin has the ability to do. The amount of problems people encounter here on a daily basis far exceeds the manpower that's available here to handle it all. I believe most, if not all mods are here on a volunteer basis. They have other jobs in real life and can't be full time babysitters. It's why Admin set up the site the way they have. Honestly, I really don't mean for this to sound rude, I believe you really are expecting too much. If you visit any other large social site, they have the exact same issues.
