What does it mean when someone's profile suddenly says they're away?

"<user> is away from Similar Worlds at the moment. Contact with this user may be limited. When <user> returns, this restriction will be removed."

I was talking to this guy and suddenly this appeared. He also changed his name and location. No indication that he had any plans to go anywhere.
