I Am Christian

The number one argument against God always seems to be "If there's a God, why do bad things happen to good people?"

But God never promised to give us these ideal, perfect lives where nothing ever challenges us or tests us. After all, the Son of God and Saviour of the world was born in a stable and wrapped up in a burlap cloth. - What does that say? He is no less a king and no less powerful, and God certainly loves Him.

Its not about ideal circumstances where everything is perfect and we never have to cry, never have to struggle or never experience pain. Jesus himself said, "why hath thou forsaken me?" to show we ALL experience that point where we feel we're about to break.

Jesus was God in human form, an incredibly vulnerable state. But God walked among this earth, just like the rest of us to show: Yes, faith is enough and yes, I will never leave you nor forsake you.

I have learned through my pain and I'm strong because I have struggled. My faith is my greatest achievement in life and it grew because I had to LEARN how to trust God in EVERY situation.

If my life was perfect then I would have the same faith as an infant- never learning to walk in God.

I would say the reason people choose not to believe in god, is that there is no evidence to support his existence anymore than there is to support the existence of (I'll use somebody else's analogy) The Flying Spaghetti Monster. So why do you believe in one but not the other?
CoCoPuffs · 26-30, F
@GeniUs: Well other than you just came up with that off the top of your head? Because I believe that God isn't a legend or mythical creature. The world was thought to be flat, the sun the center of the universe, the idea or air and breathing is about as old as the U.S. So honestly science and the whole idea of seeing is believing is not a safe bet for my eternal life. Discovery is relative. Kind of like math- 2+2 will always eaual 4, whether someone finds it or not. God will always be, whether you believe it or not.

@WellWellNow: "honestly science and the whole idea of seeing is believing is not a safe bet for my eternal life." Woah woah now - it's because of science that we know that the earth isn't flat, that earth isn't the centre of the universe (they used to think the sun orbited the earth). The scientific method is the only method that provides us with a better understanding of our reality.

Without it, you wouldn't be sitting on a computer right now talking with someone on the other side of the planet.

No I did not, I stated somebody else's analogy.

So you know god exists because you believe in him is what you are saying.
I know the theory of flight, electricity, radio etc are right because they are testable, the existence of god is not testable therefore he is no more likely than our friend Spagmon.

@GeniUs: So gentleman, I have clarified all of my points, as well as addressed and responded to all of yours. I did not post to debate, gosh! Lol

You guys are entitled to your opinions but this is mine! ☺ I'm not going to prove you wrong, no more than you are me. So thank you both for responding in a cordial demeanor!

@GeniUs: People dont have a choice to believe or not to believe. People are spiritually dead and those who believe had a spiritual experience called being born again. It is not a decision that can be explained with arguments a non believer understands. Never.

Except, I was a believer and not one of these 'I worship in my own church' sort either, a real 'God is my everything' believer and I stood up and defended his presence in bars after a few drinks or at work or whatever it didn't matter. And then one day, it just didn't make any sense, I'd eaten the fruit of the forbidden tree so to speak my eyes were opened and I realised there was no substance whatsoever to any of it.
Here it comes again, it's the 'I want to believe speech'; and I do I really do! I want good people to be rewarded and dickheads to go to Hell. I want my mum , bless her who to this day would turn me over to the law if she though I'd done wrong and believe that God would guide the hand of the legal system to get it right, I want her to go to Heaven because she has lived her life to the best of her ability and really, really deserves it. And I want my dad to go to Heaven for putting up with my mum who trusted in God even though he hasn't helped them one bit. And I want my sister to be in Heaven who got cheated by the church and so she fell out with them but up to that point she believed and deserves to be there. and i want all good people to go to Heaven. But it's not going to happen.
The crux of this is, I was born again and I worshipped god but then one day I didn't anymore, why would god let that happen? Because he doesn't exist.

@GeniUs: The fool says in his heart, there is no god.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
I could say to you "go home and learn some manners before you engage in a discussion with an adult", because you have basically denied everything I have said by calling me a fool! No explanation, no why or wherefore and so I say, you sir are the fool, however I have explained my position in why that belief is held and so whilst you are rude to call names I am justified.
Dreammmer · 56-60, M
@GeniUs: Please be mindful, that is a quote from Gods word. So your problem is with God. He says you are a fool if you deny his existence.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
No my problem is with fools like you, with your pathetic get out clause of 'god says it not me', absolutely cowardly. If you are going to call me at least accept that you are doing it. Now if you want to continue this conversation you better come up with some better arguments than god says you're a fool because quite honestly you are letting the religion down with your insipid defence of it.
Dreammmer · 56-60, M
@GeniUs: If you are serious about getting help with your loss of trust in Christ, see a pastor or counsellor.
From what I perceive, it is arrogant and foolish to claim that there is no God just because you have lost faith. Humble yourself and admit, that you cannot believe anymore but dont make yourself the centre of the universe. You are not.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
You truly are a dick. How have I made myself the centre of the universe? That is once again a get out for your lack of real argument. I lost faith because it was based on nothing, nobody (even the pope) can say it is based on anything with any substance to it because there is none. You really are a beginner when it comes to this religion malarky, pathetic, an embarrassment to your religion trying to side step the issues and trying to give me a backhander in the process. Let me reiterate you're an embarrassment, I was putting up better arguments than that 10 years ago.

@GeniUs: Completely with you GeniUs. WellWellNow was polite, she gave you answers even if you disagreed, and didn't attack a person ad hominem. Dreammmer doesn't seem capable of staying on topic, and litters his replies with underhand comments.

As for faith, here's a great quote from Matt Dillahunty: "Faith is the excuse people give for believing something when they don't have evidence."

Also, thanks for sharing your story earlier.

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." - Hebrews 11

Fellas don't argue over this! That was not my intention when I posted and talked to you guys! Everyone go rest in their corners! 😊
