I Am Christian
I don't want to be _just_ a vessel.
So much is said and preached about being a vessel for God to use. And I'm not by any means disputing the validity of this metaphor from the Bible. It is like any parable in the Bible, to compare similarities between certain things in order to teach a lesson.
While we can be compared to vessels, we are also God's children and His servants. I won't go so far as to say that makes us child slaves.
But the Bible all together, says we are many different things to God, including children, servants, and vessels.
The 'vessel to be used by God' metaphor, if it is emphasized too far, could lead us to have very impersonal relationships with God and other people. Just as the 'child of God' concept, if taken too far, could lead us to be inappropriately infantile.
